Dunhill Biometric Wallet claimed to be virtually indestructible : Losing your wallet is a real inconvenience. Before credit and bank cards became common it meant you’d lost some cash and a nice wallet. Now, you have to take the time to cancel all your cards and change a few online passwords depending on what was stored within it.
Dunhill hasn’t solved the problem of having your wallet physically taken, but it has taken steps to catch the thief red-handed as well as keeping the contents very secure with the use of two new security measures. It’s Biometric Wallet is so secure in fact, Dunhill claims it is “virtually indestructible.”
The outer case is constructed of carbon fiber with a leather interior. When closed it has a locking mechanism that can only be opened by the owner. This is achieved by the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner on the back of the case. That’s not all, however, as Dunhill also added proximity security.
The Biometric Wallet can be linked to a mobile phone via Bluetooth. If the phone is more than 5 meters away from the wallet an alarm sounds. So even if a thief manages to get a hold of your wallet and fingerprint, he will have to deal with the alarm sounding as he tries to leave the scene of the crime.
A determined thief is still going to get his hands on your wallet, and with the right tools that lock can be broken. But the combination of fingerprint scanner and alarm make it more likely they’ll drop the wallet soon after stealing it, or give up trying to get it open and move on to another victim.
Of course, you have to pay for such advanced security. Dunhill wants £600 (US$950) for the Biometric Wallet. Depending on how valuable the contents of your wallet normally is, it probably isn’t worth the investment for most of us.
