Situated less than a block from the popular Georgetown movie theater, Maté is a fairly priced, upscale Sushi bar that is favored by movie-goers looking for some Sake after a terrible movie, or GW students ready to begin a night on the town by stuffing sushi rolls down their gullets. Maté is decadent, lush, and entirely unexpected in Georgetown.
Its interior design sets a sexy yet sophisticated atmosphere for diners, completed with all red decor, luxe Panton spiral lamps, red Luna chairs, and a fairly large sleek aluminum bar.
They serve Japans Best sake hand in hand with their mouth watering Latin sushi, which in part is a great combination to start your night. Monday through Friday from 5 - 7PM is Mate's happy hour, including half priced sushi, $6 cocktails and $4 beers.
Apparently many Senators have been spotted here at this establishment, as well as a few well known athletes (DeAngelo Hall of the Redskins) according to several guest reviews.
If you plan on dining here on a weekend night, make sure to call ahead for reservations as it tends to be a bit of a problem finding an open table.
Reccomendations:
- The Volcano Roll: Including a torched crab concoction.
- Chi Che Spicy Roll: Shrimp tempura with avacado and cucumber, topped with salmon and spicy pepper, toasted to perfection.
- The K-31 Tropical Roll: Mango and salmon wrapped in corn masa & nori with quinua.
Maté is open every night of the year, from 5 PM until last call, where most of the wait staff is fairly easy on the eyes and will usher your drunken, stuffed body out of their establishment with a smile and a sexy wink (although maybe you hallucinate that last part after several Sake intakes).
